Join Textile Art Center Artists in Residence Diana Eusebio and Cici Osias for an introductory indigo dyeing workshop inspired by their Artist in Residence group exhibition, Stew.
In this hands-on workshop, participants will be introduced to the basics of working with indigo, a natural dye traditionally used to create rich shades of blue. You’ll learn how to prepare and work with an indigo dye bath, explore basic fabric-dyeing techniques, and create your own dyed textile to take home.
Along the way, Diana and Cici will share their artworks in the TAC exhibition and the historical and cultural significance of natural dyeing and textile practices, with a focus on the knowledge and traditions carried by Black and Indigenous communities throughout the Americas.
This workshop is rooted in the continuation and celebration of uncolonized Pre-Columbian traditions, while also creating space for contemporary experimentation and artistic exploration. Whether you’re completely new to natural dyeing or have prior experience, you’ll leave with practical skills, new knowledge, and techniques you can continue exploring at home.
All materials are provided. Beginners are warmly welcomed.
