With Care showcases a variety of small textile artworks by 60 artists and designers. A majority of these pieces were created during the 2020 quarantine in the homes of New York City and beyond. These intimate production settings manifested art objects and wearables that are charged with immense love. The care poured into each piece becomes apparent through the attention to detail, meticulous construction and range of unique hand crafted techniques. The form of the wall labels throughout the show are fashioned as care instructions, usually found inside mass-produced garments. This serves as a reminder of our closeness to textiles everyday, our mundane yet political proximity to textile industry production and labor, and the deep necessity to care for objects as well as each other.
The Textile Arts Center (TAC) is pleased to invite you to With Care, an open call fundraiser exhibition co-curated by Artist Programs Manager, Francisco echo Eraso and TAC AIR 12 Alumni, Jeanne F. Jalandoni. With Care supports the TAC’s Artist in Residence Scholarship Fund, on view from November 20 - December 5, 2021 in the TAC Gallery at the Textile Arts Center (505 Carroll Street, Brooklyn New York 11215) and open for online bidding.
Auction rules are simple: see something you love, bid on it. Someone outbid you? Bid again! The first 20 bidders will enter a raffle for one $100 Gift Certificate for a TAC at Home class.
All proceeds will fund the TAC AIR Scholarship fund, awarding one emerging textile artist who demonstrates commitment to their art practice, identifies with a historically underrepresented community in the arts and states the need for financial assistance to participate in the program and advance their artistic practice. Throughout the course of 9 months, AIR are given support to expand their textile repertoire, time and critique space to develop artistic goals and concepts, and the chance to connect with inspiring leaders and innovators working in the field.
