Screen Printing 101

Japanese sashiko embroidery both reinforces and ornaments fabric with beautifully tessellating geometric patterns, all created with a simple straight stitch. In this workshop we’ll discuss the basics of materials selection and pattern development as we revive and beautify our wardrobes. Please bring along 1-2 pieces of clothing in need of mending and we will patch them up! Clothing should be medium weight woven fabric, such as a blouse or blue jeans.

Offered as:
  • Weekend Intensive
  • 4 Week
  • Morning Series
Screen Printing 102: Printing with Dyes

In this class, students will learn how to print with dyes on fabric, instead of inks. Using dye printing pastes instead of inks allows for vibrant and transparent colors, without the “sit-on-top” effect that happens when printing with ink. Students will learn about different dyes available for fabric, different thickeners, how to prepare the dye print paste, how to print with it on fabric and the different ways to set it.

Offered as:
  • Weekend Intensive
  • 4 Week
  • Morning Series
Screen Printing 201: Yardage and Repeat Patterns

In this course, students will expand their knowledge of screen printing and print design, and learn various ways to create repeat patterns and how to print yardage on fabric.

Offered as:
  • Weekend Intensive
  • 4 Week
  • Morning Series
Screen Printing with Stencils

Screen-printing is a super fun way of getting a design printed and re-printed into anything you may want—t-shirts, tote-bags, fabric, etc. While traditional screen-printing normally requires an exposure unit and photo-sensitive emulsion, screen-printing with stencils is the perfect do-it-at-home option. In this workshop, students will learn the basics of screen printing with stencils: how to make a stencil and how to print their own designs using textile inks.

Offered as:
  • Weekend Intensive
  • 4 Week
  • Morning Series
