Bead Embroidery
Join us for an in-depth workshop on bead embroidery and textile embellishment. In this class, you'll learn how to use different beading, stitching, and image transferring techniques to create your own embellished textile designs.
Bobbin Lace 101
Bobbin lace is a lacemaking technique in which lengths of thread wound on bobbins are twisted and braided. As the work progresses, the lace is held in place with pins placed in a lace pillow following a pattern. In this class, students will learn the basic fundamentals of Torchon lace and how it's constructed. We will be focusing on Half stitch, Linen stitch, and Whole stitch techniques, while constructing simple bobbin lace sampler. Students will also work towards making a simple Torchon tape lace.

Bobbin Lace: Tape Lace
Bobbin lace is a lacemaking technique in which lengths of thread wound on bobbins are twisted and braided. As the work progresses, the lace is held in place with pins placed in a lace pillow following a pattern. In this class, students will learn the fundamentals of tape laces from a contemporary standpoint. We will be focusing on cloth stitch, sewings, and 2-pair fillings. Students will learn about regional tape laces and how to apply their logic to create their own designs. Students will work towards making a simple tape lace.

Embroidery
In this course, students learn traditional embroidery stitches as well as develop their own way of drawing with thread. Students will be introduced to a variety of ways of creating lines and textures on cloth and image transferring techniques. Students will leave with their first embroidery sampler and an embroidery hoop to continue practicing.

Hand Tufting
In this class, students will learn how to create their own small rug or wall hanging with a variety of hand tufting techniques, textures, and patterns. By the end of the class, students will know how to use the punch needles, prepare their frame with monks cloth, create a design, and complete the piece with finishing techniques.
Mending
In this workshop students will learn to mend, patch, and adorn worn cloth with hand-stitching. Students will be introduced to a variety of visible mending techniques, including traditional embroidery stitching, darning, basic patchworking techniques, and the rich history behind different canonized mending styles. We will combine these different techniques to create a unique mending composition on your garment or textile, both personalizing it and repairing it, all at once! Students are encouraged to bring garments or samples in need of mending, as well as beloved scraps and adornments to include in the mending process. Please be mindful that we will be hand sewing, and to not bring materials that will be very thick, sturdy and/or difficult to hand sew.

Sashiko
Japanese sashiko embroidery both reinforces and ornaments fabric with beautifully tessellating geometric patterns, all created with a simple straight stitch. Through the use of mainly running stitch, with different lengths and alignments, an amazing array of patterns can be achieved. In this workshop we’ll discuss the basics of materials selection and pattern development as we revive and beautify our wardrobes.
