Classes We Offer

Machine Knitted Scrunchie
In this class, students will learn introductory machine knitting techniques to create their own scrunchie. Students will work into basic components of how to cast on, use punch card, perform stitch transfers, use waste yarn/ravel cord, and casting off. We will also review how to sew using mattress stitch. This course is beginner friendly, though prior machine knitting experience is preferred. Students will walk away with a basic foundational knowledge of machine knitting on a single bed machine and their own scrunchie!

Machine Knitting 101
In this class, students will learn the basics of machine knitting on their own individual Brother 864 standard gauge knitting machine. Students will learn the cast on and cast off processes, how to get a finished edge, how to increase and decrease, and garment finishing. Students will walk away with a finished project. Examples of past projects include: socks, tank tops, a hat, and a scarf.

Machine Knitting 102: Texture + Patterns
In this class, students will continue expanding their Machine Knitting skills and understanding on their own individual Brother 864 standard gauge knitting machine. This class covers more advance patterning techniques, such as the use of punch cards and tuck stitches, tension swatching, cables, weaving techniques and other hand-manipulated stitches. Students will gain a much deeper understanding of the capabilities of a knitting machine and will leave with a collection of swatches and a small project based on their vision.

Machine Knitting 201: Garment Construction
In this class, students will continue exploring the basics of Machine Knitting on their own individual Brother 864 standard gauge knitting machine. Students will learn the basics of drafting for knitting and garment shaping, different cast on processes, how to get a finished edge, how to increase and decrease, and garment finishing techniques. Students will walk away with a Machine Knitted garment based on their vision. Previous projects include sweaters, tank-tops and more!

Machine Knitting 202: Short Row
In this class, students will dive into intermediate knitting using the short row technique on their own Brother 864 standard gauge knitting machine. Students will learn how to knit graphic imagery, create textural structures (flaps, corded loops, pockets), and learn how to map out a basic knitting pattern for their artwork. Students will walk away with a collection of abstract knitted “paintings” (or swatches) and a thorough understanding of short row, which can be utilized throughout future knitting projects!
