TAC Residency at Ace Hotel Brooklyn

The Textile Arts Center at Ace Hotel Brooklyn re(creates) some of the studio facilities of TAC’s studio in Gowanus to provide an inside look into a textile arts studio and a space for learning and experimentation with textile techniques, including demonstrations of weaving, machine knitting and printing. Three artists from the Textile Arts Center’s community will be showcasing their work and practice, and activating the space through demos and workshops: Elaine Shen (knitting), Jose Picayo (weaving) and Stephanie Santana (printing)

TAC’s residency at the hotel will be punctuated by a series of workshops in December and January.

The first one will take place in The Garden on December 13, 7-8:30pm:

Knitting and Crochet with Elaine Shen, RSVP HERE.

Join textile artist and designer, and TAC Artists in Residence alum, Elaine Shen to learn more about her work and practice, including demonstrations of knitting machine techniques and a hands-on exploration of filet crochet, a lace technique.

Elaine Shen (she/her) is a textile artist and maker from the San Francisco Bay Area, currently based in Brooklyn, NY. Her work investigates the complex nature of love relationships and expressions of care in the context of the places in which we grew up and the cultures and family dynamics that shape our paradigms. She utilizes grid structures to reflect on order and chaos and the power of opposites and employs a range of textile techniques including machine knitting, crocheting, knotting and netting, stitching, and printing. Elaine holds a BFA in textiles from Rhode Island School of Design.
