Textiles are made by many fibers, stitches, and layers interlaced together. The thinnest thread or smallest stitch each play an important role in supporting the textile. Our community of artists is like a textile in this way, the whole supports the individual and the individual contributes to the integrity of the whole. As a community funded arts organization we value the support of our students, artists and community members to further our collective mission and dreams.
For this upcoming cycle of Artist in Residence, TAC has awarded one full scholarship to one artist/designer who demonstrates commitment to their art practice, identifies with a historically underrepresented community in the arts and states the need for financial assistance to participate in the program and advance their artistic practice.
This scholarship will be supported in part by you all, through donation of artwork to the fundraiser auction + exhibition. Last December in 2020, we organized the Small Works / Big Impact fundraiser exhibition to support our Artist in Residence Scholarship Fund. Over 30 artists donated their work and sold out ! Our last year's fundraiser exhibition featured work by AIR and WIP alumni and AIR instructors, mentors and guest critics, but this year we are opening up and leaning into the support of our broader community.
Donated work will be sold through a silent auction at the opening reception; unsold work will continue to be available for sale online.
This year we have the chance to increase the impact by opening up our open call to our larger community. Small Works/Big Impact will culminate in-person exhibition and online auction.
