INTRODUCING ERIK BERGRIN
October's Work In Progress Resident
Erik Bergrin is an artist based out of NYC. He started working with textiles while in studying psychology in college. He later went on to work in costume shops creating theatrical costumes for Broadway shows. Every time Erik learned a new technique from the shop, he used the technique to create his own work, constantly experimenting. An interest in weaving and embroidery took him to Peru, where he first learned how to weave. After years of designing and constructing costumes and garments, his work evolved to (wearable) fiber sculptures.
Erik has a strong connection with meditation and psychology, and he uses his realizations as symbols in his work. The ideas start with something he wants to explore in himself or a problem he wants to examine, and he will make a visual representation of it in order to confront it and change it.
You can visit Erik's installation for Work In Progress from October 2-31, at TAC Manhattan studio, and learn more about her work and process during Artist Open Hours, on Saturdays 2-5PM.
FIND YOUR SHADOWS: MEDITATION + WORKSHOP
October 29, 6:30-9PM
Join Erik Bergrin, October's Work In Progress resident, for a workshop integrating meditation and textile work.
Erik will lead you in a Tibetan meditation called "Feeding Your Demons", in which you will focus on a "demon" of yours, ie anger, or a specific problem you're having , and personify it in order to engage in a dialogue with it. You'll then be working on creating a visual of your demon through drawings and textile work.
