Summer Classes at Byrdcliffe

Isabel Wilson is a clothing and textiles designer we have covered in the past for her debut collection.

Isabel is based out of Brooklyn & Woodstock, NY & sells her collections in NYC at Jumelle, ONA, Albertine & other places across the country. She also designs textiles for other clothing designers like Degen, Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein & others.

This summer she is organizing a new & exciting Textiles Program in upstate New York at Byrdcliffe Art Colony in Woodstock, built in 1902. Starting May 2015, Isabel is offering classes in Weaving, Knitting, & Surface Design that will continue throughout the summer and into Fall.

To give you some background, Byrdcliffe is the 2nd oldest operating Arts Colony in the U.S. It was founded in response to the Industrial Revolution. The idea being, simply, to get back to making things with our hands! It’s interesting that over a century later, here we are again..

Byrdcliffe is known for its reputable residency program which houses artists each summer in its various cabins on Guardian Mountain. In the past, Byrdcliffe has had many famous residents including Bob Dylan, Isadora Duncan, Thomas Mann & many others.

This summer, a roster of notable textile artists and designers will teach weekend workshops, and events and openings throughout the summer will compliment the educational component. Situated in the historical Loom Room of White Pines, it will be the first time this beautiful room will have been used in this capacity since the 1920s.
