Staff Picks: Book Arts 101
I love books. I mean…I really really love books. I make paper and there is an obvious connection there, but I cannot even tell you the hours that I have spent in the Strand since moving to New York (more specifically, the Rare Books room). My partner and I collect a lot of beautiful books, which explains why we have a plethora of multiples lurking in our bookshelves. So, I guess it was a pretty simple for my Staff Pick this month: Book Arts 101.
Explore the basics in this course that looks at bookbinding as a fluid and expressive art form – and one that dovetails with fiber arts!Students will learn the fundamental vocabulary and tools of bookbinding as we create 5 non-adhesive books. Using paper as a fiber, each book model will explore the opportunities for fiber and book arts to connect through techniques including embroidery, needle weaving, natural dyeing, and resist techniques.
Our classes are designed to focus on a learned skill rather than a final product. At TAC, our mission is to provide skills and knowledge for a lifetime! All materials for sample making and learning the technique are included. Any additional materials will need to be supplied by the student based on their vision. Students have access to Open Studio time for free for the duration of the class, to put their new knowledge to practice.
Staff Picks are a monthly series of discounted classes, based around a theme. This month, we are celebrating EARTH. Staff Picks are 10% off for the month – just enter STAFFAPR14 at checkout!
