Presenting FRAY: AIR Cycle 7 Final Exhibition

This September, we are proud to present FRAY, the final exhibition of our Cycle 7 of Artists in Residence.

Fray is the unravelling edge of a textile, exposing the structure of the material, through time. The exhibition FRAY presents the work developed by the eight Artists in Residence at the Textile Arts Center.  Over a period of nine months, from October 2015 to June 2016, the artists of FRAY delved into concepts of landscape, time, form and storytelling, both individually and as a group. The work showcased in the exhibition represents each artist’s process of exploration of these topics and features techniques ranging from weaving to inflatables, marbling to bobbin lace,  proposing new visions for textiles in contemporary art.

Artists in FRAY are Colette Aliman, Maeve Broome, Fanny Gentle, Alex Goldberg, Jamie Israelow, Yunjung Kang,Victoria Manganiello and Ignacia Murtagh.

FRAY will be on view at Gowanus Loft gallery, in Brooklyn,  from September 22 – 26, 2016.

Opening Reception: September 22, 6-9PM

Artist Talks: September 26, 7PM

FRAY is part of the inaugural New York Textile Month programming this September, a month-long, city-wide festival celebrating textile creativity and promoting textile awareness.
