Local Wisdom Photoshoot in NYC

Local Wisdom is an international fashion research project exploring the “craft of use“, such as emotions, habits, stories, techniques, associated with existing garments.

This Saturday, Local Wisdom will be at Parsons, organizing a photoshoot, of you and your most precious clothes, and the stories behind them.

What should you bring? Perhaps you have a garment that is…

• Is easily repairable
• Is worn regularly and has never been washed (and isn’t leather!)
• Is enjoying a third, fourth or fifth life
• Surprises you each time you wear it

• Shows or tells the story of how it’s been used
• Is worn in ways that defy the producer’s values
• Is adapted over and again in order to meet changing needs
• Has interchangeable parts that can be worn in different ways
• Is shared between people
• Connects you to others
• Is worn in response to changing economic and environmental concerns
• Is made up of interchangeable pieces that can be worn in different ways

“This is a bed jacket that my mother let me wear when I really wasn’t feeling well as a young kid and when I had to stay in bed… It was given to my mother by her mother for the same reasons, and her mother I think is the one who bought it…

My mother, she’d pull [it] out and her jewellery box and allow me to wear it, to dress up in it and try her rings on, rather than think about how ill I was feeling. It was really nice.”
